Race and Festival Fact Sheet


The Race

  1. This is a one day event. July 14th 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  2. The distance is 500 meters in length, in one direction only, and there will be three (3) lanes.
  3. Only the first 32 teams will be accepted.

Trophies

  1. Prizes will consist of divisional first and second places, overall first and second and finally the overall fastest time.

Team Composition

  1. Each team will consist of twenty (20) paddlers (8 must be female), plus one (1) drummer and one (1) steersperson. Three (3) alternates are allowed for a total of twenty-five (25) people.
  2. Registration fee is $500.00 per team which includes the use of the boats, paddles and all safety equipment.

Registration

  1. All teams registered by April 30, 2001 will receive one (1) free practice time.
  2. Registration deadline is Friday June 10, 2000.
  3. All other practice times are $40.00 per practice. All practice times are one (1) hour in length. For the safety of your crew, we do encourage you to have at least two (2) practice times. A Dragon Boat Coach can be provided on request, however, your crew will be responsible for the cost of the coach.

Food and Beverage

  1. Food and beverages are available for purchase during the event. Please note that Municipal, Province and Federal laws prohibit any participant, friend or family member from bringing alcoholic beverages of any nature into the park. However, there will be a hospitality area during the event.

Safety and Wavier

  1. All team members must sign and return a waiver prior to participating in any sessions or race activities.
  2. All members under the age of 18 need written consent and waivers signed by a parent or legal guardian.
  3. The team captain is responsible for the duplication, distribution and submitting of all signed waiver forms to the Race Manager prior to the first practice.

Team Benefits

  1. Use of all equipment (boat, paddles, life jackets, drums) during races and practices sessions.
  2. A minimum of three races is guaranteed.
  3. One free practice when registered before Friday, April 30, 2000.
  4. A 10 feet x 10 feet space will be designated for each team. Teams may bring their own rent or rent one through the Society.
  5. Recognition in the Event Program.

Waterfront Practice Schedule

Paddles and Life Jackets will be provided. Life Jackets MUST be worn at all times while in the boat. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of that participant.


Practice times will be:

May 2001 and June 2001

  1. Monday, Wednesday and Friday - 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  2. Saturday and Sunday - 10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
  3. Additional times can be arranged if necessary.
  4. ALL dates and times must be confirmed by Event Manager.
